FAIRFAX, VERMONT - EST. 2025
She didn't just open a bakery.
She built something with purpose.
Why Sweet Abilities?
The name isn't an accident. It's a quiet declaration — a reframe of what's possible and a promise about the kind of place this would become. Lynn Orton chose it carefully. Because this bakery was never just about baked goods. It was about what people can create when they're given the chance to shine

Meet Lynn
Before Sweet Abilities, Lynn spent years in food sales — deeply connected to the local food community, with long ties to the beloved Sunflower Bakery that once occupied this very space on 997 Main Street. When her chapter in food sales came to a close, opportunity arrived with it. The space was available. The timing was right. And Lynn said yes.
She took over in January 2025 and got to work — expanding the hours, growing the menu, and layering in the things she believed in: exceptional baked goods, a warm space, and lunch worth staying for.
"I haven't taken anything away from what they were doing — but I wanted to introduce new things and grow it into something more."
The bigger picture
For a long time, Lynn and her oldest son — who has autism — had been dreaming about starting something together. A business of their own. A place that felt like theirs. The heart of it was the same: a place where everyone belongs, and everyone has the chance to contribute.
That's the north star at Sweet Abilities. Lynn is actively involved with the Special Olympics, and when the time is right, she plans to build an employment program for people of all abilities — giving meaningful, real work to people who deserve it.
"I think my biggest goal is to support people of all abilities. I want everybody to feel welcome when they come in — and to give them an opportunity for employment when that time is right."
Fairfax's bakery
Sweet Abilities has settled into Fairfax the way a good bakery should — quietly, warmly, and all at once. Morning regulars. After-school crowds. Weekend skiers swinging through on the way to the slopes. Sunday morning families who just needed a reason to get out of the house. It's the only treat-yourself destination in town. And Lynn takes that seriously.
Come see us. We're at 997 Main Street in Fairfax, open Tuesdays from 8AM to 2PM (with limited menu), Wednesday through Saturday from 6 AM to 3 PM, and Sundays from 7 AM to 2 PM.
